Your Birth Card & Year Ahead
Seven cards, one year
The Birthday Spread
Your birth cards never change. The Birthday Spread does — seven cards drawn fresh for the year ahead: its heart, what you are leaving behind, what you are stepping into, your lesson, your gift, your challenge and your guidance.
Draw your Birthday SpreadHow the maths works
Your personality card comes from adding every digit of your full birth date together — day, month and year. If the total is larger than 22, its digits are summed again, and again, until it lands between 1 and 22. That number is read against the Major Arcana, where 1 is The Magician and 21 is The World; 22 loops back to The Fool, who carries the number 0.
Your soul card reduces that same number down to a single digit from 1 to 9 — so 22 becomes 4, and 19 becomes 1. When the two numbers already match, there is no second card: you simply have one birth card, which tends to make its archetype feel unusually loud in your life.
Your year card uses your birth day and birth month with the current year instead, reduced the same way. It changes each birthday, and it describes the season you are living through rather than who you are.
What the three cards mean
Think of the personality card as the face you show and the way you tend to solve problems, and the soul card as the deeper pull underneath it — what you are actually after when nobody is watching. The year card sits on top of both: a temporary lens, birthday to birthday, that colours the same personality differently each year.
None of this is fixed or predictive. It is a way of choosing a handful of images to think with, which is what tarot has always been best at. Read your cards in full in the card meanings library, or draw the Birthday Spread for the year ahead.
